MXP4 - does it have legs?
In recent discussion with major labels and big indies, seems like the marketing opportunities offered by mxp4’s interactive technology are of serious interest. Biggest hits are: Music file which is always up to date with the band’s latest info, Ability to push remixes out almost instantly, iPhone apps and Treasure hunts. In the long run it’s all about bringing the artist closer...

midem wrapup
Overall, 2 major themes emerged out of the conferences I attended: Fans and Brands. The power is shifting to the artists (nothing new here) and the relationship with their fans is constantly growing in importance. Brian Message mentioned that he asks his bands to go sell the merch after the show and I agree with him. MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogs… Fans know so much about the...
midem is done! today was a bit more restful. got to play guitar hero and hang out on the beach for a bit.
midem update
Today, most panels were dedicated to artist/brand relationships. I was really looking forward to the bacardi/groove armada deal. So here’s the lowdown… the 1-year 360 deal was signed 7 months ago and what did we get today… www.bliveshare.com
This excuse of a marketing scam lets users send a link to the 1st GA track to their friends and receive extra GA songs for every 500 users ...
Midem day 2
Today’s afternoon panels were a bit of letdown. The morning was a lot more interesting. Brian Message’s advice to bands: Sell your own merchandise after the gigs. The artist-fan relationship is more important than ever. Also, tune-in tomorrow on Goom Radio’s “RADIO-MIDEM” at 18:00. I’m being interviewed on what’s it’s like to be a managers in...
Ken Hertz: “YouTube is not profitable and record labels somehow think that they too are unprofitable”
monetizing live video content
Had drinks tonight with the head of Biz Dev of one of the Majors discussing the monetization of high quality video of a live performance. It appeared that when offering a 50/50 split between the producer and the label, the label will most likely be interested but will probably only accept a 60/40 split. However, deals might be split along the lines of: labels keeps digital rights, producers keeps...
Capitalism stole my virginity
temporarylull:

4AD compilation. this is going to be amazing!
midem madness
Planning MIDEM is about as complicated as finding a record deal in the middle of the financial crisis. the panels look interesting though, especially for managers.
mxp4 vs. grandcrew.com
Today, worked at mxp4 in the am, discussing how to reach the right artists. now at grandcrew, discussing monetizing online video content. tricky business
