midem update
Today, most panels were dedicated to artist/brand relationships. I was really looking forward to the bacardi/groove armada deal. So here’s the lowdown… the 1-year 360 deal was signed 7 months ago and what did we get today… www.bliveshare.com
This excuse of a marketing scam lets users send a link to the 1st GA track to their friends and receive extra GA songs for every 500 usersĀ that they (and their network) spam. So basically GA is turning their fans into spammers… great. after 2000 or so spams, the user receives the entire 5 track EP… or they can just go to their usual P2P network and download the entire thing without having to sign up for a user account, post an uber-long url to all their friends facebook or email, and annoy the f**k out of all their contacts.
I was expecting to find out about the deal points to this unique deal but, the case study was more of an hour long informecial on how awesome GA and Bacardi are, and how much the love each other… what a waste of time. I can’t believe it took them 7 months to come up with this.
The details of the actual GA/Bacardi deal remain secret and the audience didn’t learn a thing. My time would have been better spent at the indie label panel. Hopefully tomorrow will be more informative
